After 200 miles coast to coast, it came as a enchanting surprise to arrive in the seaside town of Whitby.
A group of riders were blown away by the enchanting small town and the cosmopolitan style that mixes modern living with rich history. During our long ride we were lucky enough to see some great scenery, passing through 3 National Parks, we saw some truly breathtaking vistas.
Whitby is famous for its different types of food and was clearly a town to furfill our hunger, offering up some of the best fish and chips available in England. Its not all fish and chips though, with a larger range of eateries lining the streets all over the town had there appeal, it would have been a shame not to try a traditional english dish. Feast we did on the piles of deep fried cod and chips as many a drunken sailor and indeed tourist had done before us.
There is something very special about Whitby. Traditional appearance is just a cover for the stylish cafe's, bars and restaurants that are wedged betwen cobbled streets. It is not hard to see why Whitby has been voted the best seaside resort in the UK. Whitby is a hidden, historical master piece in modern Britain.
Whitby in a remarkable feat has managed to combine the old with the new seamlessly to keep the old guard happy in their home, while also been different enough each year to keep the visitors coming back. With a catalougue of shows, regattas and festivals that would put many a town to shame, Whitby appeals to a wide range of people.
Whitby has a magical history, tales of Dracula and Captain Cook are always a eves drop away. I cannot wait to get back. And this time ill try not to forget my camera. And so we were away. After one brief but brilliant night in Whitby we were on our travels again heading for the delights of Robin Hoods bay and the contemplation of the journey home.
